In this week’s focus story we highlight a stunning three season porch addition in Southington, CT. This porch is the epitome of making complicated look effortless. When the homeowners contacted Archadeck they were looking for a way to increase their outdoor living enjoyment but were adamant about what they had in mind. This included not disturbing the wall of the interior living room. They also wanted access to the addition to be accessed from the kitchen.

If you look closely at the photograph above, you will notice that the window to the left, which is the kitchen, is actually a bay window on two sides and a door on the third (within 3-season porch). In order to make the addition accessible from the kitchen, and accommodate the two-foot overhang of the 2nd story, we had to engineer an intricate angled wall and roof system.

From the opposite side of the three-season porch you can see the intricacies of the custom roofline at work.  The main gable ridge slope falls just short of the house to ensure no interference with a second story window. In addition, the roof also contains a shed coming off the gable at an angle. To match the home’s existing cedar exterior we also commissioned a mill to make the same in order to finish the exterior of the 3-season porch with a perfect match that makes the addition appear original to the home.

The precision that went into designing each detail of this porch is a perfect example of our craftsmanship and the pride we take in each of our projects. Now for a look at the interior…

Southington, CT three season porch

Where other additions fall short in their claim to fame in being a 3-season porch , this one stands apart — this outdoor room is the epitome of a true three season porch. The space was designed using our signature Artistic Enclosure panel system. This means the openings are finished with glass on the bottom, and screen with acrylic panels at the top. Using these panels extends use into the three seasons and, the view. The screen used in this particular space is made from a heavier weave than traditional screen so pets can enjoy the space along with the homeowner without concern of damage such as cats climbing the screen, or dogs bumping into the screen and causing the screen to buckle.

This addition is also as beautiful as it is artfully crafted. With a fir floor and rustic pine ceiling, the interior of this porch is a joy to behold. We also wrapped the structural ridge braces in pine to match the ceiling. In the above photo you also get a peek into the visual interest the roofline brings to the interior of this space.

Topping off this project, Archadeck also installed a low-maintenance entry deck using AZEK in a hue to match the spacious paver patio surround located just off the three season room — a match made in heaven.
